My first DSLR

After waiting for a very long time...

I got my first DSLR camera!!!!
- A Nikon D3100 -

Over the past several years I have been using a point-and-shoot Sony Cybershot, but I've been wanting to upgrade to a nice DSLR. The Sony was a great tool to learn photography basics on, but there comes a point where there is only so much you can do with it. I've heard a lot of great reviews on the Nikon D3100 and have been doing a lot of research on it ever since it was released in November of 2010.

{I just had to go try it out this afternoon...}
I originally thought that I would need wait awhile longer until I had saved up a bit more, but yesterday I found a lightly used one (less than 800 photos taken) for an extremely good price on Craigslist. It also included a lot of accessories, including the standard lens (18-55mm), a 55-200mm lens, and a camera bag. It was within my price range and it sounded like a good deal, so my dad and I went and bought it last night. I'm starting to think that it's one of the best investments I've made.

It may take me awhile to figure it all out (there are so many things to learn...), but I've greatly enjoyed it so far! I can't wait to go out on some photo shoots with friends and practice using it. There will be plenty of pictures coming in future posts!

I'm just a little bit excited about my new "toy"...can't you tell?

What type of camera, lens, and equipment do you use??

  2. Rebekah,

I can sympathize with you, as I just got my first camera (a DSLR as well)less than two weeks ago! I was introduced into the digital camera world by my older brother who has bought and sold over five DSLR cameras and I was too spoiled with the nice DSLR's to settle for a point-and-shoot. :) :)

My camera is a Canon (yeah, we're on to Canons, not Nikons - whatever works! :)) Digital Rebel XTi. It's an older camera, but God worked it out amazingly and answered my prayer above and beyond what I thought by providing a whole set-up for me!

Have fun with your camera and use it for God's glory!!!

  7. Cool "toy" Rebekah!!! I don't think I've ever commented on here before, but I'm pretty sure you were in my Bright Lights group last year in August in Cedar Rapids. I think it was the Strong in the Lord conference. I have a Canon 30d and my 2 lens: a 18mm-55mm and a 75mm-300mm. From what I've seen on here, it looks like you're a pretty good photographer!!! Thanks for the wonderful post!

    Blessings!

I want to buy nikon d3100 too :)
And you have only 18-55mm lens or you have better lens? Because I read that the one of the best is 55-300mm

  9. Oh I am so sorry. I wrote stupid message.
You write here that you have 18-55 and 55-200lens.
But I want to ask you, if you are happy with these lens.
And could you sometimes write under the photo which type of lens do you use, please?

    Thank you for your comments!

Yes, I have both a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm...both of which I am very happy with! I have never used any other lens, so I don't really have anything to compare them to, but they have worked wonderfully for the pictures that I take. Thank you for your idea about telling what lens I use with each photo - I'll try to remember to do that on the photos that I post!

    Rebekah
